Meal replacement shakes are liquid form supplements that can replace a particular meal of the day. For people who have tried it as a means of weight control, they often find out that meal replacement shakes do help them achieve their weight loss goals. Just what are meal replacement shakes and why is there hype when it comes to weight control? Is there any magic involved in meal replacement shakes or not? Let’s find out.

Meal replacement shakes contain high servings of protein, moderate carbohydrates and low fat. Most meal replacement shakes also contain several vitamins and minerals. Most of the shakes are in powder form. On the other hand, most protein sources include whey, albumin and sodium caseinate to name a few. Carbohydrates are usually sucrose, corn syrup, maltodextrin and simple sugars to get easily assimilated to the bloodstream.

As the name implies, meal replacement shakes are taken in as replacement to a particular meal of the day. It does not matter which meal in particular. However, it is important to take note that meal replacement shakes should not replace the entire meal within the day. On the other hand, meal replacement shakes are somehow deficient with the much needed nutrients and fibers that we need in order to function properly.

Basically, meal replacement shakes do not necessarily restrict the body from eating a particular type of meal. All you need to do is to replace one meal with the shake. However, it is still important that a dieter should not rely on meal replacement shakes as a means to lose weight.
